Sherrie Smith-Ferri will survey the textile treasures woven by Pomo Indian basketmakers from the early 1800s until today. Her presentation will examine the extensive botanical knowledge and the sophisticated environmental skills that underlie the creation of these beautiful artworks.

Sherrie was Executive Director of the Grace Hudson Museum and Sun House in Ukiah, CA and has been the consultant for California Indian-related exhibitions at the National Museum of the American Indian and the de Young Museum, among others. Growing up, she was inspired by her grandmother, weaver Lucy Lozinto Smith, who told her, “The basket is in the roots – that is where it all begins.”
