In Memory —
Lynette “Lynn” Evelyn Hindley
1945-2024

OAC Member since February 10, 2005

Lynette Evelyn Hindley passed away peacefully on October 18, 2024, at her home in Mill Valley surrounded by loving family.

She was born on January 26, 1945, in the Australian town of Narromine in New South Wales.  Raised on a family farm known locally as Mumble Peg, Lynn decided early to pursue a career in medicine.  This led her to begin nursing at Queen Square Garden hospital in London in the late 60s.   She came to Bay Area in 1970 and over the next 30 years she worked at UCSF, Ross Hospital and Marin General across many different floors and specialties.

She married a Mill Valley native, Peter Hindley, in 1974 and they settled into an A-frame house on Mt Tam.  They were instrumental in the mountain community and famous for their clubhouse Halloween parties (“better next time – more blood”).   Lynn was an active member of both the Mill Valley Outdoor Art Club and Mill Valley Tennis Club.  She was a proprietary member of the Tennis Club having served on the Board as well as participating in many teams and club functions over the years.

She is survived by her three children David, Sheridan and Stewart, and six grandchildren Kate, Lachlan, Maximo, Kareem, Cameron and Charlotte.  A few months before her death she penned a draft letter to her grandchildren that said in part “go forth and live a good life fulfilling your dreams and contributing to a good society”. She never got to deliver the letter but had an outsized impact on their lives and will be missed and remembered.

The above was provided by OAC Member Anna Hindley, daughter-in-law, on October 20, 2024.
