A Creative Culture
Dr. Ed Catmull is a co-founder of Pixar Animation Studios and served as their President for 33 years. For 13 of those 33 years, he was President of Walt Disney Animation Studios and previously was Vice President of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm Ltd. He has been honored with five Academy Awards, including two Oscars and a Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Catmull is also an ACM Turing Award Laureate. When Toy Story was released, he had achieved a 20-year goal. His focus turned to ensuring a sustainable and healthy culture that continues to make sophisticated films for adults and comedic films for children. He has many stories about this fascinating culture and its approach to making great films. He will describe how Pixar developed a remarkable company that provided support and honesty to the creative teams and why the relationship between art and technology is so energizing.
